Our founder, Katherine Mullins, spearheaded this initiative as a means for keeping people warm while they waited on long lines to vote in swing states during the 2020 election. She felt angered by the voter suppression tactics taking place around the country. She thought – what could be more unifying than a hand made comfort item from complete strangers given to express our gratitude for their tenacity? She reached into the craft community and quickly found more than a dozen talented, engaged and caring volunteers who signed on to partner with her to create warm accessories, distribute these items to people, and engage and inform on Instagram.
This initiative expanded throughout the creative community nationwide and within a few months, over 3,000 items were created and distributed to people in several states in November 2020. Crafters from all over the country have reached out to contribute and it has been so rewarding that WarmTheLine will continue to knit, crochet and sew for people who could use a warm item or positive connection after this November.
